Springhill is home to 75 milk animals and 150 replacement animals. We have bulls in stud at Select Sires, Guernsey Gold Sires, Semex, ST Genetics, Masterpiece and Guernsey Marketing Services.
Springhill was established in 1819 with the land deeded from U.S. President James Monroe. We are currently in our 7th generation.
Registered Guernseys were a stronghold in the early 1900s through 1970s.
Two registered Holsteins were introduced in 1974 to the existing Guernsey herd, one of which included the dam of our Holstein foundation cow “Langacres Elevation Hope.“
In the late 1970s all the Guernseys were sold and a registered Holstein herd was established.
By 2002, the Holstein herd had reached 450 milking cows. Many national champions and production leaders have been bred by Springhill in this time, with wide known genetics.
In 2007, an experiment to reintroduce Guernseys was started with the purchases of our future brood cow “Dix Lee Tiller Joke.”
In 2018, the commercial dairy was sold along with a large portion of the Holstein and Guernsey herd. A smaller scale Guernsey, Holstein and Ayrshire herd was retained to develop on our original land.
